Maybe it is the new year that has me evaluating things.
Anything we spend a great deal of time and effort on should be evaluated and made clear why we invest in it. When I started this blog it was out of a longing and yearning to be apart of what I saw other mother-bloggers doing.
I was inspired by mothers who were exposing the beauty of being at home with their children, and showing the world that "stay-at-home" mothers have a purpose and a beautiful calling to fulfill.
I was struggling to find the beauty in my calling as a mother, and wanted to start searching for ways to appreciate what I had been given. And, indeed this blog has helped me fulfill those longings and helped me focus on the better part of my days rather than the mundane and difficult.
But, ultimately it has become a place where I want to show how my faith has carried me to this place where I am for better or for worse.
It was also intended to be a journal for the kids to look back on someday and a record of their journey through childhood.
But, ultimately it has become a place where I want to show how my faith has carried me to this place where I am for better or for worse.
To share that I struggle (oh how I struggle), and how there is a God who is faithful, a healer, a comforter, and one who answers when we call. I realize that this blog is basically a public journal of sorts. Which is intimidating, and yet I feel like it is my calling to keep posting. Because just maybe you or someone you know might just struggle like I do or can relate to what makes me smile.
Thank you again and again to those of you who continue to encourage me. I am one that needs to be encouraged. Don't we all need encouragement?
What I pray is that no one comes to this space and imagines a life exists around here that isn't real. Sometimes me choosing certain pictures and posts to share is my way of focusing on the positive rather than the negative, so it is purposeful. But, that lack of sharing the negative certainly does not mean it does not exist because it does.
Like for example, I'll share that lately I have been going through a dark time of doubt and struggling to see the light. Wondering if God has forgotten about me? Wondering if God has the power to heal my little boy who has been sick repeatedly? See how can I always share one side of the story without the other. I can't. With great faith comes a great deal of doubt whether we care to admit it or not. But, God never leaves us when we call Him near.
In my heart I know all the right answers to my doubts. But, sometimes I need to be convinced. This came through the voice of, Natalie, who is 4 years old the other day while sitting at the table she said, "Mom, at church we are learning about how God is a healer. He heals people." This was just what I needed to hear at a moment when my anxious heart was starting to feel as if an elephant were stomping on my chest. The tears welled up in my eyes because I knew this was an answer from God. He heard my pleas and cries and He knows me.
He IS a healer. Mighty to save.
However, God does not always answer us in the way we want. But, He will be there to see us through whatever the outcome may be. I have to let God, and let go. I struggle with this. See, I don't know about you but I am perfectly capable of handling things on my own. Or so I try. But, this taking the reigns and trying to control every aspect of life leaves me in an exhausted, anxious, and desperate state.
Natalie's verse to memorize for Sunday school this week is so fitting.
"Cast all your anxieties on Him because He cares for you." 1 Peter 5:7. We all memorized it this week, and I keep needing to repeat it over and over.
My favorite part is that, "HE CARES FOR YOU." Don't we need to know this, that someone cares about every small intimate detail of our lives?
I chose the photo of the bird's nest at the top because of how messy it appears to be with all the twine, twigs, moss and mud.
And yet, how beautiful all that messiness is in the coming together for such a great purpose.
And yet, how beautiful all that messiness is in the coming together for such a great purpose.
Oh how this nest resembles my own nest. And, how on so many days ALL I can see is the messiness in more areas than one. But, what if you were able to get a view from above? To look down at the eggs tucked warmly and safely inside. I have to remind myself of this when I feel like I have made such a mess of everything; that my little children are tucked safely and warmly inside the nest. Why can't I let this be enough some days? Why do I always have to look at what didn't get done or how I didn't measure up?
See, this is why I blog. To remind myself that in the very midst of this messiness of life, that God has a greater plan and purpose for me. To remind myself to rest easy in that truth.
