When I found out that I was expecting my first child, I was overjoyed. I knew that being a mother was my calling in life. And like any new mother-to-be, I immersed myself in the world of birthing information readily available to us information-age mothers.
After spending countless hours doing research and talking with other people, I felt that a nurse midwife who worked in the hospital was the best fit for a provider. We prepared as well, by attending Bradley birthing classes, a lengthy 10-week program focused on husband-coached childbirth. As a first-time mother I was going to do everything right. The more I submerged myself in the plethora of child-birth books with information about the current practices and statistics about labor etc. I had my mind made up; I wanted an unmedicated, natural childbirth, with minimal to ideally no interventions.
