Somewhere in the Middle of America...

Today we took an hour drive mostly through the countryside to a small town to visit friends.  There is something about leaving the city (even a relatively small city of 160,000 people) and driving through the country.  The sky becomes more of a focal point because you can see it so clearly, the blue contrasting with the white clouds.  Also, the sudden ability to see for miles and miles.  The city starts to make one feel cramped and claustrophobic.  The air is fresher out in the country (that is as long as you are not driving past a hog farm or the like).  I'm not sure how I'd adjust to leaving the city and moving to the country, but there is something a lot simpler about that life that appeals to me.  Instead of shopping malls, restaurants, and office buildings- you have farmland, rivers, trees, and nature surrounding you.  It's hard not to see God's workmanship while driving through the country.  It was good for M.E. to experience seeing the fields, crops, and farm animals as we drove along, too.  To see the farmers out in their tractors plowing the fields.  A life so distant from ours, but so very connected to the food we eat.
